Frequently asked questions…

  • This is not a service we offer. Why? Because our teachers are much happier having a stable base where they can keep all their materials. Our library of books and games is MUCH too large to take on the back of a bicycle around London. Happy, well-supported teachers make for happy students!

  • Yes, we have a termly recital and encourage all our students to take part, whether they’ve had 3 lessons or 300 lessons! We also encourage students to enter festivals, do zoom recitals and school concerts.

  • Yes. We support students who wish to take exams, but are passionate about not making them our sole focus. There is way more to music making than only studying 3 pieces for months on end. We compose, improvise, learn carols, source music that reflects children’s culture and background, play games to get a really solid theoretical foundation and play in ensembles!

  • Absolutely. We offer a termly ‘Parent Practice Seminar’ where we talk about home practice and how to make the most of it (and negotiate it)! We also run an annual practice challenge in the studio, to get families to focus on their practice habits.

  • We offer a means-tested bursary scheme which reduces our group lesson fees by up to 90%.

  • Our profits are very small, and we put a lot of them back into bursaries. As we are only able to provide a small number of bursaries, it is important that these go to the families who need them most.

  • We very proud to be one of the very few private music schools who pay all our teachers at or above the current rates recommended by the Musicians’ Union. Our non-teaching employees are paid a decent wage, above that of the London Living Wage. We are proud members of the Living Wage Foundation.
